Humana Provider Overview

Humana Insurance is a health insurance company that has helped its policyholders lead healthier lives since 1961. With over 13 million members, its plans cover a range of health services, including substance abuse and mental health treatment.

Humana Plans and Coverage Levels

Humana has two insurance plans: Preferred Provider Organizations (PPOs) and Health Maintenance Organizations (HMOs).

  • PPO plans: These plans allow members to see a variety of in-network and out-of-network providers without a referral. With a Humana PPO plan, in-network care has lower out-of-pocket costs.
  • HMO plans: A Humana HMO plan allows members only to see a selection of in-network providers. Members must also choose a primary care physician, and out-of-network care is rarely covered.

In some states, Humana offers Medicare and Medicaid plans and coverage for active military members.

How To Check Your Humana Insurance Benefits

There are a few ways to check your Humana Insurance benefits.

Sign in to your MyHumana portal to access your benefits information.

  • Call the number on the back of your member ID card and speak to a representative who can determine your eligibility and benefits.
  • Contact The Recovery Village at Baptist Health and speak to a recovery advocate who can check your benefits over the phone.

Does Humana Insurance Cover Drug and Alcohol Rehab?

The Affordable Care Act requires all health insurance companies to provide coverage options for mental health services, including addiction treatment. In most cases, Humana Insurance will provide coverage for addiction treatment if using an in-network provider.

Coverage will depend on your policy, the type and location of treatment and the length of treatment. Out-of-network, private and luxury facilities are not typically covered.

Humana may cover medical detox, inpatient care and outpatient care.

Does Humana Cover Mental Health Services?

Humana covers mental health services under the Affordable Care Act. Coverage depends on your policy, the type of treatment received, and whether you use an in-network provider.

Our Florida Rehab facilities offer therapies that Humana may cover, including eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) and cognitive behavioral (CBT) therapy.

Humana and Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT)

Medication-assisted treatment (MAT) is an addiction treatment method that combines medication with traditional therapies. It works well in treating addiction to highly addictive substances like opioids because it decreases withdrawal symptoms and reduces the risk of relapse.

Humana may cover some medications offered at both of our Florida rehab locations, including:

  • Buprenorphine-naloxone (Suboxone)
  • Lorazepam (Ativan)
  • Clonazepam (Klonopin)

Coverage will depend on your plan and the type of treatment received.

Humana Length of Treatment

While treatment length differs for everyone, most patients will spend 30, 60 or 90 days at an addiction treatment facility. This time allows patients to medically detox, establish new coping skills and plan for life after treatment.

How long Humana will cover treatment depends on your specific insurance plan and the state you live in.

If you have a Humana insurance plan, going to an in-network addiction treatment facility can reduce your treatment costs.
