The Recovery Village at Baptist Health accepts First Health Coverage, which often helps cover addiction treatment costs.

A key principle of effective addiction treatment is that it’s readily accessible. As part of that, reducing barriers to receiving life-saving treatment for a substance use disorder is critical. One way to reduce the barriers is to make it more financially accessible by accepting insurance. The Recovery Village at Baptist Health is in-network with most of the country’s insurers, including First Health.

First Health Provider Overview

First Health Group Corporation provides contracted Preferred Provider Organization (PPO) network access. The company helps with managing employee benefit plans. The First Health Primary Network includes over 5,700 hospitals and nearly one million providers. The clients of the First Health company use the Primary Network as their exclusive medical network in their service area.

First Health Plans and Coverage Levels

First Health maintains a national PPO Primary Network. A PPO is a type of health plan contracting with medical and service providers, including doctors, hospitals and other facilities, to create a network of participating providers. If you see providers within the network, you’ll pay less out-of-pocket. You pay more to receive treatment at a provider or facility out-of-network. Along with the Primary Network, First Health has a Complementary Network that helps members save outside their primary network. It’s a more flexible option.

Does First Health Insurance Cover Drug and Alcohol Addiction Treatment?

Most insurers cover the costs of drug and alcohol addiction treatment based on the specifics of your plan. However, you may have an out-of-pocket responsibility. If you go to an addiction treatment center in-network with your First Health PPO plan, your out-of-pocket costs will be significantly lower than they would be if you went out-of-network.

Does First Health Cover Inpatient Rehab?

Parity laws in the U.S. mean that insurers must provide coverage for certain services like other types of healthcare. Inpatient rehab can be an important part of a rehab program, and because of parity laws, First Health will usually cover at least some of the costs of these programs. The specifics of what will be covered versus your out-of-pocket responsibilities will depend on your plan and where you receive care.

Does First Health Cover Outpatient Care?

Outpatient rehab programs can vary in intensity and approach. They are more flexible than inpatient rehab, allowing you to explore what recovery will look like while retaining support. First Health usually covers outpatient care if you go within the network. Otherwise, you may not have coverage, or you may have to pay more out-of-pocket.

First Health Mental Health Services Coverage

Just like parity laws and the Affordable Care Act require that insurers provide similar coverage for rehab programs as other healthcare, the same is true for mental health services. Often someone going to addiction treatment will have co-occurring mental health disorders that must be treated simultaneously, so mental health coverage is essential. Many types of specialized therapy may be covered by your First Health PPO plan, including eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR). Other types of treatment you may have coverage for include cognitive-behavioral and dialectical behavioral therapy.

Addiction Treatment Options for First Health Members

The different levels of care that may be covered in terms of addiction treatment if you’re a First Health member include:

  • Medical detox
  • Intensive inpatient residential treatment
  • Partial hospitalization programs
  • Intensive outpatient programs
  • Outpatient rehab

First Health Treatment Duration

The typical treatment duration in an inpatient program is 30, 60 or 90 days, but every treatment plan is different, so some stays are longer than this. The treatment duration First Health will cover depends on what types of treatments you’re receiving and their medical necessity, your plan and coverage level and where you receive treatment. They may cover your entire stay.
